Do we really need the Moon in our sky? And what is its actual purpose of this natural satellite? What if the Moon disappeared tomorrow?
If the Moon were to simply disappear tomorrow, there would be some disastrous consequences that would have an unimaginable effect upon life on Earth. Lets see, what happens to the earth if moon disappeared.
What would happen to the oceans if the Moon disappeared tomorrow?
Earth’s oceans would have much smaller tides across the globe which is about one-third the size of what they are now. And The Ocean height will decrease by allowing much more land to reveal over water. As Tides churn up material in the oceans, which allows coastal ecosystems to thrive as time passes.
Animals in these environments such as crabs, mussels, starfish, snails rely on the tides for survival. So, Without a coastal ecosystem, this could have adverse effects for other land and sea animals and could lead to mass extinctions soon if the Moon disappeared.
Additionally, The tidal movements help stabilize Earth’s climate by transferring heats across the globe. And Ocean currents are driven by the tides, which distribute warmer water around the globe and influences the global climate. So, Temperatures could potentially be more extreme on the Earth without this influence. So, Cold areas could be more colder & warm areas could me more warmer.
What would happen to animals without Moon ?
A missing Moon could cause a lot of confusion for animals around the globe. Predators rely on both the darkness of night and a small amount of moonlight to effectively hunt. So, without any light at night, prey would likely thrive because predators would have a harder time spotting them. Just like the tides, this could cause a drastic change in the ecosystem and potentially lead to the extinction of certain predatory animals soon if the Moon disappeared.
What would happen to our seasons ?
Probably the most worrying, the Earth’s seasons could change permanently without moon. Because, experience seasons on the Earth as spring, summer, autumn and winter as the Earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees. Relative to the plane we orbit the Sun, Earth’s tilt is about 23.5 degrees that causes the changes in the season. And It is the pull of the Moon’s gravity on the Earth that holds our planet in place. So, without the Moon stabilizing the earth tilt, it is possible that the Earth’s tilt could change significantly. And It would move from no tilt (which means no seasons) to a large tilt (which means extreme weather and even ice ages).
Can we survive if the Moon disappeared tomorrow?
The answer is very unlikely as the sudden change in the gravity might cause unbalance to the earth’s rotation. And that can totally destroy the life on earth. multiple disaster might cause the earth to be unhabitable. So, it would be safe to say, moon set with a great purpose by our almighty lord.
